Growing up in the North West Highlands, my passion for the mountains began early, inspired by my father, British Mountain Guide Martin Moran. I’ve spent my life exploring wild landscapes across Europe, North America, and the Himalayas, gaining a deep love for mountaineering.
In 2013, after six years of training, I qualified as a Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (WMCI). Since then, I’ve guided expeditions worldwide but remain rooted in the Scottish Highlands, where I help climbers of all levels achieve their goals. My focus is on building confidence, skills, and a love for the mountains through patient, personalised instruction.
Myself and a friend had Alex Moran as a guide for two days in February 2024 to build upon our winter experience and increase our skill set in the winter mountains. We had an brilliant time, learnt much and Alex tailored our days to exactly what we wanted for our future Alpine trips. Alex was friendly, professional and knowledgeable and I wouldn't hesitate to use him again or recommend him to others. I'll be back to the Cairngorms next year!
This was my first mountaineering course and I’m glad it was with Alex. Alex is a great teacher, extremely patient and he paid time and attention to the individual needs and abilities of each person on the course. His course was highly informative all the way through and above all he is just a really nice guy who you will feel very safe with in the mountains. Thanks Alex :)
Alex is a fantastic guide. I’ve been out with him on numerous occasions, in preparation to a trip to Nepal to climb Ama Dablam and also to build winter mountain skills for climbing in Scotland. His knowledge, passion and attention to detail are second to none and his calm approach will keep you focused when you’re swinging off two axes on grade four routes. Throw in that he’s a great bloke to boot and you can’t go wrong booking any days or courses!
